SEGAL CLASSIC FUNDS MAKE INNOVATIONS POSSIBLE
The Friends of Jerry Segal are proud to announce that funds raised by the Segal Classic provide the financial backing for
improvements in care and facilities that allow Magee to remain on the forefront of rehabilitative care. Some of the Magee
patient programs that have been funded by the Segal Classic are:
Four wheelchair accessible buses to transport patients. These are the most used forms of transportation for Magee patients
and personnel.
Numerous pieces of equipment for patients such as a Gate Rite, Pressure Mapping System, Computers, Balance Master, laptop
PC for FES Freehand implant program, ECU units, biofeedback unit, HiLo table, Cough-a-la-tors, Bladderscan, cooling blanket,
treadmill, Vail beds, overhead lifts and translation of the SCI Patient Educational Handbook into Spanish.
New televisions and free television service in every patient room.
Computer training lab for patients and former patients.
Renovations to the spinal cord injury floor to better serve patient needs.
Funding patient outings for recreational and cultural trips.
The Spinal Cord Injury Peer Mentor Program which provides those with spinal cord injuries a peer to advise and support them
through rehabilitation.
Community Re-entry Scholarship Program - Scholarships are available for enrollment in Magee's Community Re-entry Program.
This clinical program helps patients to resume their roles as students, homemakers, employees, or parents. The scholarships
are distributed based on financial need, allowing individuals to participate who otherwise would have been unable to afford
enrollment in the program.

Segal Family & Friends Dinner
This program has provided patients' family members and guests with over 38,000 free meals as a way to defray their personal
expenses related to hospital visits. These funds have been used to reduce the added burden of meal costs during what is a
stressful time financially and otherwise for the patient's friends and family.
Segal Equipment Fund
This fund is for Magee Rehabilitation patients who need equipment that they cannot afford. As Jerry Segal knows, when you
have a disability, having the right equipment in your home is essential to achieving maximum independence.
Rooftop Community Skills Center
This center emulates a city street complete with uneven curbs, potholes, gravel, an automobile, a bus, a phone booth, a front
porch, and more! Patients practice making phone calls at a pay phone, filling a car with gas, and negotiating uneven pavement.
By teaching community skills, Magee helps make the transition from hospital to home a less frightening experience.
Medical Education Programs for Clinical Personnel
Magee Rehabilitation is recognized as a leader in training and education for residents and medical students. By providing
these programs today, Magee is helping to ensure quality of care in the future.
Wendkos Stroke Center
To provide community based activities and opportunities for socialization for stroke survivors and their families, and to
support the stroke club, alternatives program, annual events, and a monthly newsletter.
Adjunctive Therapies
Adjunctive therapies such as music therapy, theatre arts and art therapy are supported by the Segal Classic. These programs
allow individuals with a disability to participate in cultural programs that build self esteem and strengthen cognitive skills.
Segal Housing Fund
To provide housing for family members of patients who come to Magee from a distance.
