Automated Teller Machine (ATM)
A 24-hour SB1 Federal cash machine is located in the corridor on the second floor, next to the employee lounge and patio.
Absentee Ballots/Voter Registration Forms
If you are unable to attend your polling place in person on Election Day, you may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. Please contact Concierge Services for registration forms and ballots.
Check the weekly and monthly activities flyer located on bulletin boards for updates on ongoing events including Rock n’ Roll BINGO, live music performances, pizza party night, movie nights and sports on the big screen.
Barber and Beauty Services
Area barbers and beauticians come to Magee for the convenience of our patients. There is a fee that varies, depending on the service provided. Appointments may be scheduled through Concierge Services or the secretary at the nursing unit.
Celebrations, Holidays and Family Gatherings
We encourage family members to celebrate birthdays, holidays, surprise gatherings, anniversaries, accomplishments and other special events at Magee. Allow the guest relations team to convert one of Magee’s office spaces into your own personal banquet hall. Services include linen, china and silverware on tables, with rooms to accommodate 2–50 (space permitting), complete with a microwave oven, all at no charge. For a reasonable fee, our dining service is able to cater your special events to ease the stress of planning and cooking on your special day. You name it, we’ll help you organize it. Center City Restaurant Pick-Up and Delivery Service
If you have a special dining request during your stay, we are able to bring many of the finest Center City restaurants to you. We can deliver your order on a rolling table with linen table cloth, china, silverware and beverages. The only fee you incur is from the restaurant for the meal and delivery. Please contact Concierge Services for more information.
Dry Cleaning Service
We suggest Riff Cleaners, 105-7 N. 15th Street. For information call them directly at 215-561-3138 for pick-up or delivery.
Guest relations and concierge services can provide a number of additional services for you to remove the burden from your family and friends. Please contact Concierge Services to arrange:

Friends of Jerry Segal Housing Fund
In addition to discounted hotel options, the Friends of Jerry Segal Housing Fund was established to provide housing for immediate caregiver family members of those patients who visit Magee from long distances. Interested participants need to fill out an application, which is reviewed for eligibility, before a reservation can be made. The discounted rate is provided for the immediate caregiver family members for a set number of nights, while the patient is at Magee. Applications for consideration may be obtained from Magee clinical liaisons or case manager.
Magee staff follows the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in health and healthcare and provide language assistance services and interpreters at no cost to patients. We also provide sign language interpreters upon request. Your case manager can arrange these services for you. Please inform the admissions office or your case manager as soon as possible if you will require these services.
Labs and Radiology
Magee makes every effort to ensure that radiology test results are in the hands of our physicians promptly within 24 hours. Magee also makes every effort to ensure that lab test results are in the hands of our physicians promptly. In the past three years, 97% of the critical lab results were in the hands of the physicians within 1 hour.
Legal Clinic for the Disabled (LCD)
LCD is a non-profit organization housed within Magee that provides free legal services to low-income individuals with physical disabilities. LCD has more than 25 years of experience working with people with disabilities to help them overcome legal obstacles that might otherwise affect their health, independence, safety or quality of life.
Magee partners with LCD to offer these services to eligible patients on a range of legal issues, including planning documents (powers of attorney and living wills). Patients who think they might need legal services should talk to their case manager about a referral.
Massage Therapy services are available to patients upon approval by their physiatrist. Please contact concierge services to coordinate approval. Once approved, patients or family may schedule appointments directly with a credentialed, licensed practitioner. Patients can choose from various forms of healing touch including Reiki, Comfort Touch, Myofascial Release and Swedish Deep Tissue Massage. Patients are responsible for payments to the practitioner for services rendered. Please note practitioner’s scheduling and cancellation policies.
Local newspapers are delivered to patient floors daily and can be brought directly to your room. Additional copies are in the main lobby. Publications in languages other that English are available by contacting Concierge Services.
Certain affidavits, deeds and powers of attorney may not be legally enforceable without notarization. Notary services can be provided for legal documents including wills, deeds and trusts, medical documents and power of attorney. Notary services are provided free of charge.
Library – See Resource Center
Parking is available during visiting hours in the Magee parking lot. The entrance is on Cherry Street, just before 16th Street. Upon admission, each patient receives three parking passes in their admission packet, and a voucher for seven free parking tickets per week. Additional passes may be obtained from guest relations or concierge services staff. If you have questions about free parking, please discuss with your case manager. Several commercial parking facilities are within a few blocks – please ask guest relations or concierge services for a list. Magee is convenient to all forms of public transportation. Reminder for visitors – do not leave any belongings visible in your vehicle.
Certain pets are allowed as visitors. If you would like to have a pet visit, please discuss this with your case manager and provide veterinary records. Once records have been approved, the case manager will provide the guidelines for pet visits. Pets may only visit with patients in designated areas of the hospital including the 2nd floor and the 6th floor. Pets may only visit in patient rooms if patient is in a private room.
Phone and Television
To make your stay more pleasant, in-room telephones and television are available for your use. There is no charge for television or local calling, while long distance charges will be your responsibility (by using a calling card or having the receiving party accept the charges). Please contact concierge services to purchase a calling card. There is no charge for television service, which includes Comcast cable access. The cost for TV service has been underwritten by a charitable donation from the Friends of Jerry Segal. TV Station Guide and Patient Education: Magee TV
You will receive a Patient TV Guide in your admission packet. Programs on these channels run continuously throughout the day and are also available by Video On-Demand. Our in-house programs can be found on the following channels:
- Channel 42 – Health and wellness
- Channel 43 – About your disease or disability
- Channel 44 – Life after Magee
Video On-Demand Procedures
To access video on-demand, on your room phone dial 3222: for channels 39, 40, 41.
- Step 1: Dial extension 3222 on your telephone.
- Step 2: Enter the 3-digit program code listed in your guide under the column code. Select “1” if this is correct or “2” if this is incorrect.
- Step 3: You will hear: “Your video selection will begin playing momentarily on channel… (39-41).” Tune your TV to the specific channel as directed.
- Step 4: To repeat this message, press “1”.
- To end this call and begin your video, press “2”.
Mail is delivered to each nursing unit Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Letters arriving after your discharge will be forwarded to your home address. Postage stamps and mail receptacles are available at no cost, and you can give outgoing mail to a member of the nursing staff who will place your mail in the unit’s outgoing mail box, which is located in the front nursing station for daily pickup by the mail clerk.
Private Duty Nurses
Information concerning private duty nursing services is available through case management. Private duty nurses are not Magee employees. They work independently or for agencies. Fees for their services are paid directly to them or the agencies by patients or their families.
The Jean and Benjamin Segal and Reba and Max Cohen Resource Center at Magee, open to all patients and visitors, is open in its temporary location on the 2nd floor. The library is open during the week and on weekends, and current hours of operation are posted in the elevators and on the resource center door.
The Resource Center offers an assortment of clinical and non-clinical books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and newspapers. Patients are also encouraged to use the accessible touch-screen computers, with remote controlled touch pads, foot mouse devices, large computer keyboards, Dragon Speech software with headset and microphone, along with computers and a webcam for patient and family use. Wireless access, research requests, scanning, printing and copying services are also available.
Service in the resource center is provided jointly by Magee staff and volunteers who may be contacted at either calling 215-587-3015 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org to answer questions, renew borrowed material, and/or respond to reference/research requests. A refundable deposit of $20 is required to borrow materials.
Resource Center Hours are announced daily and are subject to change, but are generally as follows: Monday – Friday from 9:30 AM – 7:00 PM; Saturday/Sunday from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
Skype and Video Calls
Please contact Concierge Services to arrange private video calls with family and friends.
Spiritual Care Services
Patients are welcome to invite their personal spiritual or pastoral clergy to Magee at any time during their stay. For Catholic patients, a priest will visit on Friday mornings to give communion. Interfaith Services are held semi-monthly. For further information about spiritual needs, or to meet with our spiritual care provider, please contact our case management coordinator at 215-587-3168. Persons of all faiths are welcome.
Snack and soda vending machines are located on most floors in the patient lounges. We also have additional machines on the second floor near the patio and Human Resources department. If a machine is not working properly, please contact the front desk at x.3000.
Patients, family members and guests can enjoy wireless internet in patient rooms and waiting areas throughout the hospital. Patients may stay connected with family and friends during their stay, and the wireless network allows guests to surf the web, check email and chat with friends and family on their personal laptop computers. To request access, please ask your nurse or Concierge Services.
