Theater Arts at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital
Theater Arts classes for individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities began at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in September 2000.

Magee’s Theater Arts classes are designed to: improve communication skills, increase self-confidence, encourage students to participate in the world of theater, and help them develop creative abilities such as mime, acting, and mask making. These classes are open to any adult with a disability in the Philadelphia area.

Theater artist/mime Barbara Gregson has served as director for these performances since the inception of the program. She received training from Magee’s staff regarding adaptations and strategies to use when working with individuals with spinal cord, brain and orthopedic injuries. Under Gregson’s direction, students learn various aspects of the theater arts always culminating in an original piece for a live performance.

Classes are held at Magee Rehabilitation. Individuals who are interested in the class can join or just come to observe. There is a small registration fee of $15.

For more information, please call Barbara Gregson at (215) 587-3078.

Creative Arts Classes

Magee's Creative Arts Classes are comprised of Philadelphia area residents who have survived stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury or developmental disabilities. Magee’s Theater Arts Program is designed to encourage and support individuals with cognitive disabilities to participate in the artistic community and provide them with resources to reach their maximum potential in the arts.
