Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne M. Abraham Receives Humanitarian Award From Magee Rehab Hospital

Philadelphia District Attorney, Lynne. M. Abraham, has dedicated her life to making our city better for all citizens and Magee Rehabilitation Hospital decided to say thank you.

On Tuesday, November 13, at 6:30 pm, Abraham received the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital’s Humanitarian Award at a dinner held in her honor at the Four Seasons Hotel. Abraham is the award’s twentieth recipient, and past winners include Philadelphia notables such as Joseph Frick, John Dougherty, Jerry and Carolyn Segal, and Tim McCarver.

The Humanitarian Award recognizes those who contribute positively to the role of healthcare and/or the lives of individuals with disabilities in the Philadelphia Region. Numerous individuals are reviewed each year by a selection committee comprised of the Magee President, Chairman of the Board, Vice Chairman of the Board and other Board of Trustee members.

Abraham’s relationship with Magee is both professional and personal. As the District Attorney of Philadelphia, Abraham has targeted the unnecessary violence that sometimes occurs on our streets—the violence that often times results in victims needing treatment at Magee. As a result, Magee continues to be an advocate in the community, backing Abraham’s efforts to stop the violence before it starts. And when Abraham’s husband, Frank Ford, was a patient at Magee for a health matter, she saw her husband receive the very best of care and has endorsed the hospital on several occasions.

Along with Abraham, the dinner will also recognize former Magee patient, Cynthia Doroghazi, who recently published her first book. Searching For the Open Door, A Woman’s Struggle For Survival After a Traumatic Brain Injury tells Doroghazi’s story in wonderful detail about how she got her life back thanks in large part to her time at Magee Rehab.

Doroghazi spoke at the dinner and signed copies of the book, which was given out to attendees—free of charge—thanks to the generosity of the investment firm of Morgan Keegan who purchased them. The book can also be purchased through Doroghazi’s website: http://www.newriverpublications.com/Searching_for_the_Open_Door.html
