Magee Volunteer Receives Award for 16,000 Hours of Service to the Hospital

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital presented Bill DeFrates of Philadelphia, Pa., with a special award for his more than 16,000 hours of volunteer service to the Hospital-the most total hours ever devoted by a Magee volunteer. DeFrates was presented a plaque during Magee's Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, held April 25.

DeFrates, who was born with cerebral palsy and relies on a wheelchair, began volunteering at the Hospital in 1988. He currently volunteers his time four days per week, six hours per day, working in the Hospital's gift shop, visiting with patients, and doing anything he can for others-always with a smile.

"I love being at Magee and helping others," says DeFrates. "I enjoy talking to the patients to help them when they're down. The people here are all great to work with. If they ever have a problem or a need, I like being able to help them if I can."
