Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Holds Seminar on Activity Based Therapeutic Rehabilitation on June 9

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital will present its first Dr. Guy Fried Educational Seminar, 9 a.m. to noon, June 9, at the Hospital, located at 1513 Race Street, Philadelphia, Pa. The seminar, focusing on “Activity Based Therapeutic Rehabilitation,” features guest speakers Susan H. Harkema, Ph.D., associate professor and rehabilitation research director at University of Louisville, and John F. DiTunno, M.D., project director of the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of Delaware Valley.

The speakers will address evidence that supports activity based interventions, how it relates within the medical world, and what is on the horizon for activity based rehabilitation.  The educational seminar is presented by The Tuttleman Family Foundation and named after Guy W. Fried, M.D., Magee’s Medical Director of Outpatients and Brain Injury who will become the Hospital’s new Chief Medical Officer on August 1, 2006.

Activity based interventions bring breakthrough research discoveries into the realm of clinical treatment. These lectures will present the neurologic research that is the basis for Locomotor Training and other activity based therapies.
