Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Names Jack A. Carroll, Ph.D., as its New President & Chief Executive Officer
The Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Board of Trustees recently announced that Jack A. Carroll, Ph.D., M.H.A. has been selected as the new Chief Executive Officer and President of Magee. Magee will welcome its new leader on August 7, 2006. He succeeds longtime President and Medical Director William E. Staas, Jr., M.D., who retired July 31 after 30 years at the Hospital. Guy W. Fried, M.D., who has been with Magee for 17 years, is now serving as the Hospital’s new Medical Director.
Dr. Carroll has more than 30 years of rehabilitation hospital experience both as a clinician and as an administrator. He comes to Magee from Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Hospital and Clinics, where he served as President and CEO of the post-acute rehabilitation system located in Richmond, Va., since 1998. He is a skilled executive with health care experience in acute disease medicine, comprehensive rehabilitation, and physician practice management. His specialized experience includes administration and financial management, process re-engineering, patient advocacy, community relations, creation of programs and services for both pediatric and senior populations, and the development of alternative outreach delivery systems. Starting in 1975, Dr. Carroll spent 20 years in various executive positions at the Medical Center Rehabilitation Hospital (MCRH), an 88-bed, free standing, comprehensive rehabilitation hospital in Grand Forks, N.D. He spent five years as MCRH’s CEO/Executive Director before accepting the position of Chief Operating Officer/Rehabilitation of United Hospital, a 250-bed regional referral center in Grand Forks that served Northeastern North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota. After two years at United Hospital, he became the Administrative Director of Altru Health System in 1997. Dr. Carroll has also taught courses at various higher education institutions, including more recently the University of Minnesota and Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been associated with numerous professional societies such as The Journal of Rehab Management, where he serves on the Member Editorial Advisory Board; the Central Virginia Healthcare Network, where he serves as Chairman; and the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, where he serves as a Board Member. He received a Ph.D. in Audiology and an M.A. in Speech Pathology from the University of Cincinnati, an M.H.A. from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, and a B.A. in Speech Pathology and Audiology from The Ohio State University. |
