17th Annual Jerry Segal Classic charity golf event to benefit Magee Rehabilitation Hospital scheduled for September 29

Proceeds benefit programs and services for individuals with disabilities

Philadelphia, Pa. – The 17th Annual Jerry Segal Classic to benefit Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia is scheduled for Friday, September 29, at Green Valley Country Club and ACE Golf Club, both located in Lafayette Hill, PA. More than 350 golfers and 500 dinner guests are scheduled to attend.

Over the last 16 years, the Classic has raised more than $5.1 million, including an event-record $822,000 last year. All proceeds benefit programs and services for individuals with disabilities at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital

Jerry Segal himself knows the great things that happen at Magee. In 1988, after undergoing unsuccessful neck surgery that left him a quadriplegic, Segal went to Magee for inpatient rehabilitation. The prognosis was that he would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. But, after receiving intensive inpatient rehabilitation services from the hospital for four months, and through his hard work and determination, Segal walked out of Magee when he was discharged.

After his rehabilitation, Segal returned to his law practice in Center City Philadelphia, and resumed playing golf with friends. Wanting to repay Magee, and to help future patients, Segal formed the Friends of Jerry Segal and started the Jerry Segal Classic.

The Classic begins with shotgun starts at 10 a.m. at ACE and 10:45 a.m. at Green Valley. The event includes brunch, golf, a cocktail hour and grand hors d’oeuvres. Registration fees start at $495 per person. Among those scheduled to participate include former Philadelphia Flyer Bernie Parent, former Philadelphia 76er Billy Cunningham, WIP 610AM sports talk host Howard Eskin, Philadelphia Phillies’ Director of Media and Public Affairs Scott Palmer, and more.
