Top athletes with disabilities to play in Philly Wheelchair tennis tourney, Aug. 10-12

The Mid-Atlantic Region’s top wheelchair athletes will compete in the 2007 Philadelphia Wheelchair Tennis Tournament on Aug. 10-12 at the Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club. The club has donated use of its facility for the tournament and practice wheelchair tennis sessions each Sunday for more than 15 years.The event draws wheelchair athletes from across the east coast, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and other states. The Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club is located at 1820 Old Cuthbert Road in Cherry Hill. The event will take place on Aug. 10 from 4-9 p.m., Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., and on Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Magee Freedoms Wheelchair Tennis Team, sponsored by Magee Rehabilitation Hospital and the Philadelphia Freedoms of World TeamTennis, are one of the hosts of the event. Members of the Magee Freedoms team include: Mark Chilutti, John Kistner, Brad Evans, Walt Ramsey, and Felix Suero.  The event is sponsored by Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, the Carousel House and the Philadelphia Department of Recreation.To register for the event or to volunteer, call (215) 587-3412.The region’s leading sponsor of sports and leisure activities for individuals with disabilities, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital offers wheelchair sports programs in tennis, rugby, basketball and power soccer. Teams are open to anyone in the community with a disability.,
