Separately, the Philadelphia Chapter of the Buoniconti Fund—an organization devoted to curing paralysis—and Magee Rehabilitation Hospital have been invaluable in improving the quality of life of Philadelphians with disabilities.

And they are joining forces.

On Thursday, November 15, at 6:00 pm, the two organizations will host the 4th Annual Raise a Glass for a Cure at the Diamond Club at Citizens Bank Park. The fundraiser will support spinal cord injury research at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital and the Miami Project based at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine.

Those attending the event will be treated to gourmet food stations, tours of Citizens Bank Park, and silent & live auctions. Along with Masters of Ceremonies Michael Barkann, John Marzano, and Scott Palmer, special guests including the Eagles Cheerleaders, the Phillie Phanatic, former Phillie Mitch Williams, Adam Taliaferro, and former Eagle Vince Papale will be making appearances throughout the night. Billy King is also scheduled to appear at the VIP reception in the Hall of Fame Club at 5:30 pm.

“Last year, we had 500 attendees and raised almost $145,000 for the Miami Project,” said Dan Jones, a Buoniconti Fund board member who has used a wheelchair since a car accident in 1999. “And with Magee on board, we’re hoping the night is an even bigger success, raising more awareness, making more research possible.

”Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s top hospitals in 2007, is the Philadelphia region’s original provider of physical and cognitive rehabilitation services, and a partner with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of Delaware Valley, one of 14 federally designated spinal cord injury systems of care.

The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis is the world’s largest, most comprehensive spinal cord injury research facility, founded in 1985 by Barth A. Green, M.D. and NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti after Nick’s son, Marc, sustained a spinal cord injury during a college football game. The Buoniconti Fund is the national fundraising arm of The Miami Project. The Philadelphia Chapter was founded by Sally & Steve Wolf—Dan Jones’ in-laws—as a way to help Dan and others with spinal cord injury.
