Magee to Honor Paul C. Brucker, MD, at Humanitarian Award Dinner
Philadelphia (October 2002)—Paul C. Brucker, MD, will be honored with Magee Rehabilitation’s Humanitarian Award at the Hospital’s 15th Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner on Tuesday, November 19, at the Four Seasons Hotel. Dr. Brucker is the President of Thomas Jefferson University and Chairman of Jefferson Health System. He will be honored for his commitment to the medical community, and for his efforts as an advocate for patients. A native Philadelphian, Dr. Brucker earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Muhlenberg College and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. In 1990, Dr. Brucker was named President of Thomas Jefferson University, the only family physician in the United States to hold such a position. As President of Jefferson, Dr. Brucker provided the institutional leadership that resulted in the formation of the Jefferson Health System. Dr. Brucker served on the Council on Graduate Medical Education, a national council charged with advising the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services regarding programs impacting the nation’s health manpower needs. In 1994, Dr. Brucker was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. Locally, Dr. Brucker served on the Mayor’s Private Sector Task Force and as Chairman of the City of Philadelphia Health Commissioner
Search Committee. He is a Director of the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition; a member of the Board of Directors
of Muhlenberg College, Gwynedd-Mercy College, and The Greater Philadelphia First. He is also a member of the Philadelphia
Orchestra’s Board of Directors, and currently serves as chair of the Pisacano Leadership Foundation, which provides funding
for accomplished students and physicians in the field of Family Practice. |
