Magee Computer Training Program Awarded$10,000 from Christopher Reeve Foundation
Philadelphia (August 2002)—The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF) has awarded Magee Rehabilitation Hospital a $10,000 Quality of Life Grant. CRPF grants are awarded to organizations nationwide that improve opportunities, access, and day-to-day quality of life for families and individuals living with disabilities. The grants, awarded twice yearly, recognize programs that enable people with disabilities to live independent and active lives. "The Quality of Life program funds organizations that provide assistance to people living with disabilities that make an immediate and substantive difference in their lives," said Dana Reeve, Chair, Quality of Life Committee. "These programs help to make life easier, more productive and more enjoyable for children and adults with spinal cord injuries and other diseases and conditions that result in paralysis." The award to Magee is for the Hospital's Computer Training program, offered to Magee patients and to people with disabilities throughout the community. Now in its fifth year, over 400 students have taken advantage of the course offerings, either to simply enjoy and communicate with the aid of 21st Century technology, or to gain skills for specific goals. Courses range from basic instruction to sophisticated applications including Excel. An upcoming course offering will prepare students to be tested for Microsoft Certification, enhancing their value to prospective employers. Magee's computer training is offered regularly inquarterly sessions throughout the year. The training takes place at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, 16th and Race streets in center city Philadelphia.
