Magee Ranks Among Nation’s Best Hospitals In U.S. News & World Report
Philadelphia (July 2002)—Magee Rehabilitation is rated one of America’s leading hospitals in U.S. News & World Report’s 13th annual “America’s Best Hospitals” ranking. Based on a survey of physicians, the publication lists 205 top medical centers from a total of 6,045 in 17 specialties. The publication says this list “…is a good place to start the search for the level of care you or a loved one deserve when it is most needed.” According to U.S. News & World Report, “Ranked hospitals tend to adhere more closely to advanced treatment guidelines, to incorporate new findings in patient care, and to conduct research that gives desperately ill patients more options.” The survey of physicians was conducted for U.S. News & World Report by the National Opinion Research Center, a not-for-profit corporation affiliated with the University of Chicago. Magee ranked 42nd in the category of rheumatology, one of the many disciplines in which Magee’s staff have demonstrated clinical expertise and caregiver excellence. The ranking adds to Magee’s reputation as a premier rehabilitation hospital. “We are very happy to be considered among America’s finest hospitals,” said Dr. William E. Staas, Jr., Magee’s President and Medical Director. “The honor confirms our status as a provider of high quality treatment and care in many areas of clinical expertise and that Magee is an invaluable resource for the Greater Philadelphia region.” Magee Rehabilitation is Philadelphia’s first hospital dedicated solely to providing rehabilitation toward the goal of physical independence. Since 1978, Magee, in partnership with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, has been designated as the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of Delaware Valley. Today, it is one of only 16 such federally-designated centers in the nation. Over the years, Magee has treated more than 2500 patients with spinal cord injuries. In addition, Magee developed the first Brain Injury treatment program to be certified by the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Magee’s lifetime rehabilitation and wellness programs also include stroke, amputation, orthopedic injury, joint replacement,
geriatric illnesses and work injury. For more information, call (800) 96-MAGEE. |
