Area Sports Favorites To Salute Wheelchair Athletes At Magee’s Night Of Champions
Philadelphia (April 2002)-- Magee Rehabilitation Hospital’s second annual Night of Champions will take place on Friday evening, May 10, at the Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall, 1301 South Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia. Sports celebrities, media personalities and area notables will be on hand to salute the courage and determination of wheelchair athletes and help assure the continued success of Magee’s wheelchair sports program. Former 76ers star and NBA hall-of-famer Billy Cunningham is honorary co-chair of the event. Other Philadelphia area sports favorites planning to attend include:
The star-studded event begins at 6 p.m. and includes buffet dinner, casino games, raffles, and a silent auction of autographed sports treasures, gifts, restaurant certificates, getaway weekends and travel packages. Another highlight will feature Magee’s athletes putting on live demonstrations of wheelchair basketball, rugby and tennis. Magee is the region’s leading sponsor of recreational and competitive wheelchair sports. Magee athletes compete in many major tournaments as well as the Paralympics at the Summer Olympic Games. As part of Magee’s comprehensive therapy program, wheelchair sports allows the athletes to compete against physical equals while improving their overall health, fitness and quality of life.
