Magee Physiatrist promoted to Assistant Professor of Rehab Medicine

Philadelphia (December 2001)— Michael Saulino, MD, PhD, has been promoted from Instructor in Rehabilitation Medicine to Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine in the clinician-educator track of the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.

Dr. Saulino is the first individual to achieve Assistant Professorship in the clinician-educator track. Jefferson Medical College recently added the clinician-educator track to recognize medical professionals who spend a significant portion of their careers educating others. Faculty tracks already exist for research and clinical professionals. Dr. Saulino spends approximately one-third of his professional time educating resident physicians.

Dr. Saulino is an attending physiatrist and the Residency Program Director for the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. He earned a BS in Chemistry from Villanova University in 1986, and his MD and Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in 1993. He has done research on a variety of subjects including nerve injury, nerve regeneration, sports-related spinal cord injury and electrodiagnosis.

Dr. Saulino is a member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the Physiatric Association of Sports, Spine, and Occupational Rehabilitation.
