Sports Celebrities gathered at Night of Champions in support of Magee's Wheelchair Athletes

Philadelphia (May 2001)—More than 500 people attended Magee Rehabilitation Hospital’s first annual Night of Champions on Friday evening, May 11, at the Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall in Philadelphia. The event raised over $89,000 for Magee’s wheelchair sports programs.

Night of Champions paid tribute to the courage and determination of people with disabilities who play wheelchair sports. Many well-known sports celebrities joined in the salute to wheelchair athletes and helped support the continued success of Magee's wheelchair sports program. Adam Taliaferro, Billy Cunningham, Bernie Parent, Ed Hospodar, Brian Propp, Garo Yepremian, Maje McDonnell, George Eyrich, Phil Martelli, Blair Thomas, Louie Giammona, and Mike Schad were among many other sports celebrities greeting the wheelchair athletes and hundreds of guests.

The star-studded event included a buffet dinner, casino games, raffles, and a silent auction of numerous autographed sports treasures, gifts, restaurant certificates, getaway weekends and travel packages. Another highlight featured Magee's athletes putting on live demonstrations of wheelchair basketball, tennis and quad rugby.
