Former patient brings unique musical blend to Magee for free patient concert

Philadelphia (July 2001)—D5 (D to the 5th Power) and her band Good and Plenty will perform a free concert for patients, their visitors, and staff at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

D5 (real name Deedra DePalma) is a former Magee patient who performs a unique mixture of rock, hip-hop, and alternative music at local establishments with her four-piece band (bass, guitar, keyboard, and drums). DePalma was a fashion model and budding recording artist before she was struck by a drunk tractor trailer driver in August 1997. Her accident left her paralyzed from the waist down. DePalma soon adapted and resumed her recording career. She has since become a lead singer and producer, and plans on releasing her debut album, the self-titled D5, this summer.

DePalma also founded Encyclomedia Inc., a company that links entertainers with charitable causes. South Street, a popular local R&B duo who will perform with D5 at Magee Rehabilitation, has performed at several schools and hospitals as part of their affiliation with Encyclomedia, Inc. After recently celebrating the release of their hit single, “Datz Dat,” South Street also performed the Star Spangled Banner at the First Union Center for the Philadelphia 76ers.
