Magee receives accreditation from CARF—The Rehabilitation Commission
Philadelphia (October 2000)— Following an in-depth, comprehensive survey and inspection of all operations, CARF—The Rehabilitation Commission has again accredited Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. The three-year accreditation will extend through June 2003. In a letter to Dr. William E. Staas, Jr., Magee’s President and Medical Director, CARF wrote, “This achievement is an indication of your organization’s dedication and commitment to improving the quality of lives of the people receiving services. …Your organization should take pride in this high level of accreditation.” A summary of the survey outcome detailed major strengths in many areas, ranging from active executive leadership to Magee’s unique home- and community-based rehabilitation program. CARF also noted that “Magee Rehabilitation Hospital programs represent model treatment for the comprehensive rehabilitation of persons with brain and spinal cord injury. …Patient confidentiality is promoted throughout the organization…” and that “Magee Rehabilitation Hospital presents a pristine appearance in the environment overall and in the rooms of the persons served.” CARF also reported that Magee demonstrated exemplary performance to standards in numerous areas. The Jerry and Carolyn Segal Center for Community Skills was cited for offering “persons served in an inpatient hospital environment a functional, non-adapted experience.” Further, CARF said that Magee “maintains an outstanding, supportive, highly successful foundation that supports the clinical mission of the organization to deliver care based upon the needs of the persons served, not on financial resources.” First accredited by CARF in 1969, Magee also developed the first Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program to be certified by the
