Mark Chilutti to receive President’s Award from the NSFRE

Philadelphia (October 2000)--Magee Rehabilitation Hospital volunteer and Northeast Philadelphia resident Mark Chilutti will receive the President’s Award from the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives on Monday, November 13. The presentation will take place at the 14th Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon at the Crystal Tea Room in the John Wanamaker Building from noon to 2 p.m.

The President’s Award honors an individual whose voluntary and philanthropic efforts on behalf of a charity go above and beyond those traditionally thought of as outstanding volunteerism or generous financial support. It is awarded to an honoree who defies traditional categories of recognition due to the unusual nature of his or her service.

Mark Chilutti suffered a spinal cord injury (SCI) in December 1996, when he was shot by robbers of his jewelry store. Regaining his independence, he has since worked to help others. He counsels SCI patients as a Peer Mentor and has hosted an annual holiday party for Magee patients. Mark has also served as Chairman of the Magee Derby, an annual fundraising event for Magee’s wheelchair sports teams.

The National Society of Fund Raising Executives is dedicated to the professional and ethical practice of fundraising. More than 700 development professionals comprise the Greater Philadelphia Chapter. National Philanthropy Day is celebrated by NSFRE chapters across the country to spotlight individuals and organizations which best exemplify the spirit of philanthropy and improve the quality of life in their communities through their charitable contributions.
