Magee to honor Nick and Eileen DeBenedictis at Humanitarian Award Dinner

Philadelphia (October 2000)—Corecipients Nick and Eileen DeBenedictis will be honored with Magee Rehabilitation Hospital’s Humanitarian Award at the Hospital’s 13th Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner on Tuesday, November 14, at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Nick and Eileen DeBenedictis are dedicated and leading advocates for the disabled community. They share Magee’s vision that people with disabilities have access to all the benefits and opportunities available to the community.

Mrs. DeBenedictis currently serves as a volunteer coordinator for SILOAM Ministries, a spiritual ministry that provides a safe, comfortable place for people either infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Previously, she worked as a Nurse Liaison, coordinating counseling information and support services for families in crisis at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Eileen is also a member of the Board of the Legal Clinic for the Disabled, headquartered at Magee. She has co-chaired two successful fund-raising art auctions for the Legal Clinic, which provides free legal services for poor people with physical disabilities.

Nick DeBenedictis has a long and distinguished record of accomplishment in the public and private sectors. Now Chairman of Philadelphia Suburban Company, he was previously Senior Vice President for Corporate and Public Affairs for Philadelphia Electric Company. In prior posts, he was President of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources, and the Commonwealth’s Director of the Office of Economic Development.

Mr. DeBenedictis has received numerous awards for public service, and serves on the Board of Directors of many regional businesses and organizations. He is on the Board of the Philadelphia Health and Education Corporation, and has served on the Board of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The Williamson Award for Excellence in Community Service, the highest community service award bestowed by the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades, is just one of many awards and honors he has received.
