Basketball has always been an exciting sport of skill and teamwork, Wheelchair Basketball is no different! Bringing the sport to a seated position allows for greater accessibility, now more people can play. Whether you're an athlete with an amputee, a spinal cord injury, or multiple sclerosis, or another disability; basketball is still a great way to get exercise, have fun, and be challenged. The rules of basketball are only slightly modified to make it more accessible, but by and large it is the same game. All an athlete needs to play is a manual chair and a positive attitude. All players are given a classification and point value and each team is allowed to have only a certain number of points on the court at any given time. For more information about wheelchair basketball visit www.nwba.org.
Practices are held every Wednesday evening from 6:30 pm-9 pm (Sept.-May) at Carousel House (corner of Belmont Ave. and Avenue of the Republic, Phila., PA 19131).
