It feels like a torch is being passed.

For the first time in over 21 years, former Magee Rehabilitation Hospital patient and longtime supporter Jerry Segal is not holding the Jerry Segal Classic, a golf outing that has raised over $10 million for Magee over its illustrious run.

But taking its place this year is a brand new golf outing hosted by Magee and another former patient and supporter, Adam Taliaferro and the Adam Taliaferro Foundation.

Jerry Segal was a patient at Magee in 1989 after an unsuccessful back surgery. Adam Taliaferro was a patient at Magee in 2000 after sustaining a spinal cord injury while playing football for Penn State.

And to recognize the efforts of Jerry Segal's philanthropic endeavors, he will receive Magee's BELIEVE Award--from Adam Taliaferro--at the 1st Annual Magee Rehab and Adam Taliaferro Golf Outing, being held October 3 at the Green Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill Pennsylvania. The BELIEVE Award will be given during the program portion of the golf outing. (See schedule below.)

"For the last two decades, Jerry Segal and his friends have raised millions for our patients," said Magee's Vice President of Development, Ron Siggs. "That money has been used for everything from cutting-edge technology used in our therapy gyms to subsidizing meals and lodging for the families and loved ones of patients so they can be nearby during the long, challenging rehab process. We thought it only fitting to recognize Jerry's contributions at this new golf outing involving Adam Taliaferro, who Jerry supported and visited when he was a patient at Magee a little over ten years ago."

Although the Jerry Segal Classic will not be held this year, Jerry and his supporters are busy trying to raise $500,000 for Magee through non-golf endeavors.

Proceeds from the Magee&Adam Taliaferro Golf Outing--which includes golf, dinner, cocktails, live music and auction--will benefit spinal cord injury research, rehabilitation, and quality of life programs supported by both the Adam Taliaferro Foundation and Magee Rehabilitation Hospital.
