The Resource Center at Magee offers a great collection of clinical and non-clinical journals/books, a variety of CDs and DVDs, highly sought after magazines, including O, has newspapers, games, children's activities and standard desktop computers. In addition, wireless access, faxing, scanning, printing, copying, Skyping and coffee services are also available at no charge to patients and at a modest cost to non-patients. The Resource Center also has new touchscreen computers with specialized computer accessories such as remote controlled touch pads, foot mouse devices, large computer keyboards, and Dragon Speech software complete with headset and microphone for our users with special needs.
At no cost, the Resource Center can help patrons to either obtain or renew a Free Library card. Patrons must live, work, pay taxes or attend school in the City of Philadelphia. In addition, anyone who lives in the state of Pennsylvania can obtain a Free Library card without charge. After the Free Library of Philadelphia application is completed, the card will arrive in the mail in 5 to 10 business days for residents of Philadelphia. Residents of Pennsylvania can expect to receive a library card in 10 to 15 business days. Out-of-state residents can obtain a card by paying an annual fee of $50.00. If you wish to pay by mail, please complete the Free Library of Philadelphia application and send your check to the Free Library of Philadelphia for $50.00. If you are registering for the first time and wish to pay online, please ask the Resource Center Associate for the necessary form.
Free research services are also performed for Magee's clinical staff in particular using nationally available databases. Among them are PubMed, Medline Plus and the National Network of Libraries of Medicine in addition to subscription databases provided by the Free Library of Philadelphia.
Free access to downloadable ebooks compliments of the Free Library of Philadelphia. There are approximately 17,000 electronic books in all subject areas from careers to classics to Cliffs notes.
Free Computer Education Training is available onsite from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm on Monday and on Saturday from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Tax Forms are offered during the tax season.
A stress reducing environment where patients can relax and unwind after participating in long day of intensive therapy, conduct personal business such as paying bills online or stay in touch with friends and family members through Social Media.
Patient/Family/Staff entertainment is provided on a quarterly basis and is referred to as a One Night Stand: Open Mic Night. Members of the performing arts community are invited into the Hospital to showcase their talents in spoken word/poetry, spiritual dancing, singing and comedy.
