Philadelphia, Pa - As a hospital that boasts a 2008 Philadelphia Magazine "Top Doctor", and status as a 2008 U.S News and World Report Best Hospital, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital knows the importance of extraordinary, knowledgeable staff. And two more have proven their abilities.

Physical Therapist, Linda Lantieri, and Occupational Therapist, Maryanne Palermo, received their Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP) National Certification. Lantieri and Palermo join fellow Magee staff members, Physical Therapist, Lori Nicolini, and Occupational Therapist, Dina Mastrogiovanni, in receiving their ATP certification, making Magee the only rehabilitation hospital in the area with four ATP practitioners.

"The Assistive Technology Practitioner certification serves as a foundation of care that is essential to providing expert services to patients requiring technology to maximize their ability to function," said Deb Kucera, Physical Therapist and Master of Science of Physical Therapy at Magee. "At Magee, there is a commitment to supporting continued education and specialist certifications of our staff. We are proud to have 4 clinicians who have attained this advanced level of certification in the field of assistive technology. They join 15 other therapists at Magee with specialty certifications in multiple areas of practice. This level of staff expertise allows us to safely and successfully serve the most complex rehabilitation clients in the country."

The certification was awarded through the Rehabilitation Engineering&Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA), an organization working to advance the use of biotechnology in the world of rehabilitation. Their purpose is to improve the potential of people with disabilities through the use of technology. RESNA's membership is multidisciplinary and international and organizations use the ATP designation as an indicator of staff expertise for equipment prescription and training of persons with disabilities.
