Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell to Serve as Celebrity Auctioneer at 18th Annual Jerry Segal Classic

Philadelphia, Pa - In Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell hears many pleas for money from various groups and organizations. But on Friday, September 28 at 7:00 pm, the roles will be reversed when he serves as the celebrity auctioneer for the 18th Annual Jerry Segal Classic at Green Valley Country Club.

The Jerry Segal Classic - which takes place this year at the ACE Golf Club and Green Valley Country Club - is the region's biggest golf fundraiser. Over the last 17 years, the Segal Classic, through the money raised for playing a round of golf and through silent and live auctions, (the auctions are held at Green Valley; 201 Ridge Pike in Lafayette Hill) has raised over $6 million for the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia. Last year alone, the event raised over $1 million, and thanks to volunteers who donate their time, every penny raised goes towards helping patients at Magee.

It's a cause very dear to Segal, who became a patient at Magee in 1988 when a surgical error left him with quadriplegia. During his months of rehab and training, Segal vowed to walk again and to give back to the hospital. He's been walking, and organizing the Segal Classic since then.

Also on hand with Governor Rendell to show their support for the Segal Classic and Magee Rehabilitation Hospital will be NBA Hall-of -Famer Billy Cunningham, Flyers legend Bernie Parent, WIP 610-Am SportsTalk Radio Host Howard Eskin, KYW TV-3 Sports Director Beasley Reece, and former sports broadcaster Scott Palmer.

Jerry Segal will be available to the media for the rest of the week, as well as at the Jerry Segal Classic. Governor Rendell will be available for quotes and comments during the Jerry Segal Classic.
