Magee Rehabilitation to Host Wheelchair Rugby Tournament

Starting Friday, November 16, the Philadelphia area will host some of the most competitive wheelchair rugby players in the country.

Get Ready for the Beast of the East.

The "Beast" as it's known to the players, is a three day tournament featuring teams from Florida, Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Washington DC, and Canada. And of course, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital's own Magee Eagles will be there not to play, but to win.

Wheelchair Rugby is played by individuals who are quadriplegic on a basketball court with a volleyball. The rules are similar to hockey and basketball, making for a very fast-paced, high-contact game.

This year, the "Beast" will be held at Riverwinds Community Center in West Deptford, New Jersey and games will take place during the following times:

Friday, Nov. 16, 2:30 PM - 10:00 PM

Saturday, Nov. 17, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Sunday, Nov. 18, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
