On December 13 and 14, between 9:00am and 5:00pm, wheelchair basketball teams will take to the court for the 7th Annual Dan Sullivan Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at the River Winds Community Center in West Deptford, New Jersey.

It may be the season of good will, but make no mistake about it, the teams competing are coming to win.

The tournamentnamed for Dan Sullivan, the Wheelchair Basketball Hall of Famer who founded the Delaware Valley Wheelchair Athletic Association in 1977חis sponsored by Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia, and will feature Magees own team, the ґ76ers Spokesmen who are also supported by the NBAs Philadelphia ґ76ers.

Wheelchair Basketball is played using most of the same, familiar rules as regular basketball, with a few exceptions which have been modified with consideration for the wheelchair. For example, "traveling" in wheelchair basketball occurs when the athlete touches his wheels more than twice after receiving or dribbling the ball. The individual must pass, bounce or shoot the ball before he or she can touch their wheels again.

A founding member of the Jefferson Health System, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital is the Philadelphia regions first rehab hospital. Along with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Magee is one of 14 federally designated model Regional Spinal Cord Injury Centers. Magee is also home to the nationҒs first brain injury rehab program to be accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Magee is authorized to treat wounded military personnel returning from war.
