For 238 years, St. Patrick’s Day has been a cause of celebration here in Philadelphia.

And Magee Rehabilitation Hospital likes to join in on the fun.

On Friday, March 13 from noon till 2:00 pm, Paul Wiese, the lead singer and guitarist of local Irish band, Birmingham Six, will perform in the second floor conference room for patients and their guests. Wiese is donating his time and talent to the hospital.

“Believe me, the rest of the band would be here too if they could,” said Wiese, “But they had day jobs to go to.”

The Birmingham Six has developed a large, faithful following on the local Irish music scene and are regulars at venues such as Finnigan’s Wake and Kildare’s. In 2008, they released their first album, Iron Rations, a combination of new songs and old Irish standards. The album was named to the top 20 list of Celtic Rock and Punk albums in 2008 by Paddyrock.com.

Along with their great sound, Wiese and the rest of Birmingham Six are known for their charity work, often performing at fundraisers for organizations such as Project Children (which brings kids from Northern Ireland to the United States for the summer) and for the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day parade.
