Kerry R. O’Connor, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital’s Director of Public Relations, was named to the Advisory Board of Access Sports on March 10.

Founded in 2002, Access Sports is a not-for-profit organization that secures tickets to local college and professional sporting events for organizations that work with at-risk and special needs populations, as well as directly to individuals with special needs. Access Sports also creates opportunities for its clients to get involved in sports through various on-field clinics. So far, Access Sports, which is headquartered in the East Falls section of Philadelphia, has donated over 1 million dollars worth of tickets to various organizations.

O’Connor, who has continuous careers in public relations and as a Credentialed writer and photographer for several local magazines and newspapers, is looking forward to bringing his unique blend of skills and experience to Access Sports’ mission of making the enjoyment of  watching and participating in sports more inclusive.

“Playing sports continues to provide me with happiness and many life lessons. And watching a game live at a ballpark or stadium with other fans provides a chance for people to connect, to be a part of something,” said O’Connor, who lives in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. “I want to help Access Sports make sure that nobody misses out on those experiences because of their disabilities or challenges.”

“I am delighted and honored to have Kerry (O’Connor) joining the Access Sports Advisory Board,” said Executive Director and Founder, Alyson Harris. “With his help, I’m confident that Access Sports will continue to grow, helping more and more people with special needs to enjoy all the wonderful aspects of sports that others take for granted.”
