Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter will be joining other local celebrities such as Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, NBA Hall of Famer Billy Cunningham, Howard Eskin, Phillies’ Director of  Media and Public Affairs Scott Palmer, Flyers Legends Bernie Parent and Dave Schultz and former Eagle Mike Mamula at the 20th Annual Jerry Segal Classic golf outing September 25.

The Jerry Segal Classic—which takes place this year at the ACE Golf Club and Green Valley Country Club—is the region’s biggest golf fundraiser. Over the last 19 years, the Segal Classic, through golfing, sponsorships and silent and live auctions, has raised over $7.7 million for Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia. Because the outing is run by volunteers who donate their time, every penny raised goes towards helping patients at Magee.

Money raised by the Classic goes towards equipment, cutting-edge technology, and providing food and lodging to the families and loved ones of patients so they can be part of the rehab/therapy process, even if they live far away.

It’s a cause very dear to Jerry Segal, who became a patient at Magee in 1988 when a surgical error left him with quadriplegia. During his months of rehab and training, Segal vowed to walk again and to give back to the hospital. He’s been walking, organizing the Jerry Segal Classic, and of course playing golf, ever since.
