On Wednesday, November 4, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital’s Development Team—Vice President of Development Ron Siggs, Assistant Vice President of Development Mark Chilutti and Special Events Coordinator/Grant Writer Suzanne Smalley—presented a seminar in Magee’s conference center for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

The seminar, entitled “Special Events – Go from Great to Spectacular!” taught the over 40 nonprofit professionals in attendance the history of Magee’s fundraising events: the Night of Champions in May, the Jerry Segal Classic in September, and the Humanitarian Award Dinner in November. They also discussed their tips and tricks for successfully planning an event, putting together committees and volunteers, choosing an event location, handling auctions and raffles, raising a million dollars at a golf event, and many other aspects of fundraising/event planning.

Attendees participated in group exercises, asked many thoughtful questions and offered up their own ideas and strategies that have been successful with their organizations’ events.

“The seminar was an expansion of a presentation that Magee’s Development Team did for AFP’s Franklin Forum last April,” said Smalley. “Originally, it was just one hour, but attendees of the original session felt that more time was needed to really impart the secrets of our special events success, so this time around the presentation was a half-day long.”
