Billy Cunningham, who played on the 1967 Sixers Championship team and coached the Sixers to another Championship in 1983, will be joining other local celebrities such as Howard Eskin, Scott Palmer,&Flyers Legend Bernie Parent, at the 21st Annual Jerry Segal Classic golf outing September 24.

The Jerry Segal Classic—which takes place this year at the ACE Golf Club and Green Valley Country Club—is the region’s biggest golf fundraiser. Over the last 20 years, the Segal Classic, through golfing, sponsorships and silent and live auctions, has raised over $9 million for Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia. Because the outing is run by volunteers who donate their time, every penny raised goes towards helping patients at Magee.

It’s a cause very dear to Jerry Segal, who became a patient at Magee in 1988 when a surgical error left him with quadriplegia. During his months of rehab and training, Segal vowed to walk again and to give back to the hospital. He’s been walking, organizing the Segal Classic, and of course playing golf, ever since.

Money raised by the Classic goes towards equipment, cutting-edge technology, and providing food and lodging to the family and loved ones of patients so they can be part of the rehab/therapy process, even if they live far away.
